ok...
i went to see and ride my friends horse the other day, i jumped on had a play, then another girl had a go then she had a go (the friend). she was showing how the horse could do flying changes (ish) AND halfpass.
i said thats good leg yeilding, because it wasn't bad, and she said yeh shes good at halfpass...

(but thats not halfpass, i thought)
they both started telling me that there was no difference between the two, and i argued my point and said there was! but i gave up in the end, didn't want to fall out over it, but i was in the right!
i'm not 100% on what the differences are, but i know there is a difference....

Yes you are right Becky there is a difference - in short

HALF PASS - the horse flexes (ie looks) in the direction he is going

LEG YIELD - the horse looks slightly away from the direction he is going!

I shall see if I can find pics

With Weezy... half pass is like travers but more exagerated and the horse is looking in the direction it is travelling and bent around the inside leg like a banana.

Leg yielding is when the horse is moving away from the leg and looking in the opposite direction to which it is travelling, eg. if it is on th right rein, I would take Han down the inner track, keep right bend and push her out to the track so travelling to the left.

In half pass the horse should bend in the direction of travel, whereas in leg yield the horse should be straight with just poll flexion away from the direction of travel ie in half pass the horse's whole body is bending around the inside leg so it requires much more athleticism. Also , if you want to be picky, in half pass the horse should be showing some collection, whereas leg yield the horse can be in a working pace (usually trot) .
