halti v. gentle-leader

I know there is a post a little way down on this subject but I would like to ask you what is the main differences of the above 2 items,and which do you prefer and why?

I am happy with my 8 1/2 months olds training at home but he does have trouble focusing at school once a week.
last night my trainer lent me a gentle-leader and we had much improvement.
his lead was attached to the GL and his collar.

I have a halti that I have just found in the tack room but it does not have the extra bit on the bottom ring that I have seen in some pictures.could I use it in the same way as the GL last night?

I bought the halti when i got my last dog and only needed to use it a couple of times,if I remember rightly,I had one light lead on the halti and her normal lead on her collar so that I could use it selectively.




PS. edited...not so much anti-pull but needed more to gain attention.

I am thinking that I will just use it when I feel I need a little help,not all the time.

I prefer the gentle leader for the simple fact that it is fixed- as in does not loosen when they stop pulling etc. but only becasue dex can get it off when it is in loose mode in 3 secs.

I used a halti years ago on a GSD I had, didn't like it, didin't use it more than say 3 times, found I didn't need it after, just used choke chain, then big chunky leather collar, he was really good as he got older.

My hubby used a gentle leader on our springer when we first had her (she was about 14 months and hadn't had much training), only used it couple of times, I didn't use it at all after using the halti, I thought it was the same, but my OH said no they are nicer, he only used it a couple of times, we used Mick's method (off dog borstal) where you put a loop in the training lead then drop the loop change direction all in one go, she soon learnt, she walks lovely to heal now (this was in just a plain collar no choke), except when something is really exciting lol
