Well not quite as good as last week, but Barry is holding up his superstar status and was a very good pony today
Veery early start, left the yard just gone 5 (yawn!) in the pouring rain (meep!) but thankfully it had cleared up a bit and was just drizzling on arrival.
New warm-up technique seems to be do the minimum possible to retain his sparkle..he is just so different from home (when I quite often struggle with him) and at events, when something just seems to click with him, very cool customer! So literally just did 10mins trot/canter and went in, and he went beautifully. I guess its the same with everyone I wish I could get in the arena just what I get outside, but he did do a very nice mistake-free test, and was lying 2nd on 28.6
SJ seemed little compared to PNP last week, he just rolled a pole - an oxer after the double, we were a little onward bound to it, got a bit deep, and had it in front...beat myself up a bit over this as it cost us a few places, but one of those things! - we made up for it with the XC absolutely romped round like a complete pro, definitely his best round yet, so much fun
Having been pretty close to the optimum last week I kicked on a bit today and he really operated - in fact perhaps went a little ott think he had pretty much the fastest PN time of the day (!), but made it feel very easy
So we ended up 6th..very chuffed with him, he feels ready to move up a level, and although I was planning to do a few more PNs I may just do one more in June (he'll have a break now as I've got exams) and then step up to Novice in July if hes feeling good. We're doing a BE xc roadshow at Tweseldown on Thurs, so will be good to get him over some more technical Novice combinations and see what he thinks!
Thanks for reading
