Your thoughts?

What is the SJing like?

Contemplating doing this after SOE PN and before Nurstead

Hambledon is one of the nicest events you will EVER compete at.
Very compact, the dressage is behind the lorry park, and on flat arenas.
The Sjing in right in the centre with all the tradestands around, so rather atmospheric the lorries to the right and the start of the xc to your left.

The Sjing is usually up to height but very simple with only about 8 fences usually, will find a vid of winston doing it last year and you can watch it - will have to up load it first tho.
Will find you some pics to - the one of me jumping the planks in my sig is from Hambledon last year.
The xc is mainly through woods, pretty straightforward, the quarry has been known to test one or two, 2 steps down to a fence and then up two steps, but theyve softened the steps down now.
The fence with a water fountain has been replaced and the water is just a run in with a fence coming out.

Fabulous event tho! and teh blue bell woods are breath taking!

Sjing

5th fence it has brush through the top of it

It is a beautiful course a proper event. They use the showjumps with the Parrotts and the Owls - if that makes any sense.

oh.....there is course photos on eventriders - XC looks nice not to big or technical.

Just worried about SJing for Spider!!

yeah - you have 3 pics up BB's - they are only small but htey are up!!!

When is Hambledon and where is it?

Near Henley, Oxfordshire. Mr WH Smiths place.
Fabulous event.

So we think Spidey would be ok with the SJing then.

She is jumping courses of 1m and am doing SOE PN - but I know they arent usually up to height!!

Have grt witchingham Intro before these so have one more Intro run before the PN's

Hell yes.
The SJ at Hambldon always starts of very small then gets progressively bigger. Used to have a wall in it, but now just planks and two doubles.

They only run PN to Intermediate at Hambledon. Yep it clashes with Ts unaffiliated. Although will wander down there over the weekend to watch and picnic on the day im not competing the snoop.

Do you think I should use my Spril ballot sticker for Hambledon??

Rather then SOE or Nurstead - ive never as yet been balloted from SOE (fingers crossed I dont now!!

Bicton, Sapey, Errosbourne Wake, Milton Keynes, Ivesley etc - quite a few.

I think I will put sticker on Hambledon and just pray I get in SOE as really want that as Spiders 1st PN run!

Maybe getting a bit ahead of myself but just having a look at some nice Novice runs for September if she is ready - I think Keysoe could be a good one looks quite inviting.

Then Tweseldown PN and Little Downham PN to finish the season - if all goes well!!!

Yep Keysoe is a good Novice, SJing is up to height. Goring Novice is nice also just a bit undulating.
WOuld also try for Holdenby if they hadnt stopped running Novice

BCA and Aldon.

Yes thought BCA too but look slike there is quite a large drop - end of road type thing - thats all that was putting me off (well at the mo anyway!) Im sure nearer the time I wont be so bothered!

They are adding extra classes due to the loss of Bicton so prob be v popular.

Fab event, one of my favourites, my first one this year - novice and i haven't ridden properly since Jan and horse not schooled since Aldon in October - could be interesting, i'm still v broken really but good to have an aim! We drive down from Derbyshire so it must be good!!

The SJ is very bright but inviting and well built, likewise the XC very encouraging although on the bigger side. They have shiney gun cartridge jump into woods away from the start and a lot of babies don't like it, its just barrels on their side that reflect the sun so something to practice!

Yes I saw those!! Luckily we have those exact barrells in out jump arena so will be lying them on their side and jumping them a few times on them before I go!!

I have just entered them both and used my April sticker as im sure im more likely to get balloted from there then SOE or Nurstead - Hambledon seems to be V poplar!!

How comes you are broken?? Have I missed a post?

No i didn't post about it actually!! Broke my foot in January, just had cast taken off a few weeks ago, can just about walk and v unstylishly sit on a horse!

Its not a normal horse i would be worried about doing it with its a baby - she will just turn 5 in May so didnt think that was an appropriate jump. Think if she is going ok Keysoe would be a better Novice run for her. Fingers crossed! She has only done one Intro this year - was double clear! but even so!

Oh dear! Well I hope it gets better soon!

So are you hoping to do Hambledon as your 1st event? Have you entered?
smile.gif

Yes entered the novice, so we'll see otherwise he can go round with the person who I work for, aiming for Houghton Hall so all a bit ambitious but gosh may as well crack on and grit teeth with the pain!!

He hasn't schooled since Aldon in october or jumped since hunting on new years eve!
