Hi i was wondering if anyone has any information regarding treatment of hamstring injuries in horses?
I have owned my mare for ten years and had numerous back people and a physio look at her. She has had her pelvis put "back" nearly every time i've had someone out and the physio who is very well thought of went into overdrive saying the horses pelvis was very bad and she would need to go to her place.(long story short she then never got back in touch with me)
i recently had an equine sports massager and McTimoney out to my mare. who pointed out the dimple in my horses bottom. she was sure that this was a old hamstring injury probably from her racing days and this has caused the problems in her pelvis!
i can't find much information on these types of injury on the internet so was hoping for some real life stories.
Its not been long since the treatment but i do feel the mare is now strugging slightly and will probably have to get the lady back out .
Thanks in advance

I'd be interested to hear any info too, my gelding has a very tight hamstring on his right hind and while treatment and stretches have helped it still has a hard knot.

the horse i ride had a "jammed" hamstring - had someone out who does rolfing and equine massage. She was able to release a lot of tension from the hamstring but didn't stop there - proceeded to release other tensions that were compensating for the jammed hamstring. Had to do a lot of gentle work and half pirouhettes around the "bad" leg to strengthen that side without swinging it out again (ie, bad hamstring on the right so piriouette right)
Now we have a straight canter and jumping up to 90cm (unaff) - did first ODE (riding club) last weekend at 80cm and doing our first novice (unaff) dressage on sunday... she was seen in march/april by the rolfer.
