Since the winter fields shut, I've been turning out a livery's horse with mine in the paddock.
I've known this horse since he was 3 years old (when I worked at a yard in 1996) but I rarely see him except in passing nowadays, as he's at the other end of the yard from me.
This horse is an 18hh monster who makes my 16.1 draft look like a Shetland
But he is the sweetest horse you can imagine and he exudes that aura of peace some horses naturally do.
Today I took the extra time to rub his forehead and ears and kiss his muzzle. He lowered his head for me and we just stood there for a few minutes.
If you've ever experienced one of those amazing moments - you'll know how it felt.
I've had a rough couple of months and it's been catching up with me recently. I've been a bit stressed out.
So I stood there with my head nestled on this monster of a horse and I felt the peace flowing from him and to me. The best therapy in the world.
Then he moved.
And I felt my nose crack and pop and my vision blur
.
The moral of the story is that no matter how cuddly the 18hh horse is - it's really not wise to push your face into theirs....it will crumple when they move
