Sorry of this is the wrong area bit I reckoned you handy folks would be able to help me out with how to fill a hole in a wall...? Hole was previously for ventilation but is now not needed. Is in a porch and creating a awful draught! About 4"x4" and over a foot deep , between brick roughcast and plaster.

Thank you!

Chopping up a brick and stuffing the hole with a brick and mortar rubble will be easy.

Matching the roughcast much harder.

Is it in a place where a plaque fixed over it would look OK?

If the inside needs to look fair I would suggest using expanding foam to fill the gap, then cutting a scrap of plasterboard to shape, glueing it in then filling around the edge. Welcome to Bodge City.

I would fill with bricks and mortar. Ready mixed mortar can be bought from places like Wickes. If bricks to big just bash with a hammer to break them.
To finish the rough cast I would buy a plastic louvre vent and either screw or glue in place.
If you place a bit of plywood on the inside before adding the bricks and mortar you will have a smooth finish once the mortar sets and the wood is removed (mortar doesn't stick to wood).

Can't offer any advice - but this thread reminded me of a funny discovery at an old cottage, which was in need of a bit of love and attention. Whilst ripping wallpaper down, I discovered a rather squidgy bit of wall. I poked it with a screwdriver, expecting dust and debris, and was most surprised when the squidginess turned out to be an ENORMOUS pair of granny knickers, which had been shoved into the hole in the wall, and skimmed over! I think that was probably the point at which we decided it was time to get a professional in...
