My horse works lovely at home in a soft round outline. But when I go to a dressage competition he is very nosy and tends to stick his head up to look at things. He is currently in a french link with cheeks. Do you think a hanging cheek snaffle would get him to pay a bit more attention to me? He is improving with every outing but has the occasional giraffe moment when at a competition!
I would appreciate any advise on this.

I'm by no means a bit expert but I put my "Giraffe" in a neue schule hanging cheek snaffle and it definately helped to a degree and they are also dressage legal which helps. Try www.shop4bits.com Excellent range and very helpful and knowledgable staff. Also you can try the bit for 30 days on trial!

I don't think that changing the bit will make him pay more attention - it sounds like he needs to have longer to work in so that he is listening to you a bit more. Perhaps you could try training/competing in more places so that he gets used to having to work more? Also don't be afraid to insist on the outline, don't let him get away with it just because hes away from home - try taking a firmer hold and see if you can 'make' him listen. My mare is exactly the same!

I totally agree with above statement! If the horse works well in current bit at home she just needs to learn to pay more attention away from home.
