Robin has colic. His guts are too mobile and hurting him. Vet has given iv painkillers and we will add sucralfate to his ulcer treatment. I’m so worried. Can’t get trailer off the yard.

There is something going on with him. This is just another issue. He is miserable and sad most of the time. The ulcer treatment hasn’t improved things as much as hoped. Maybe adding the sucralfate will help. I do feel there is something else going on. I have lost my happy cuddly boy.

Fingers crossed for Robin. I really do hope he feels better. Hind gut ulcers could certainly cause him discomfort. The sucralfate should help.

If this wasn't winter, I would actually think Lyme disease (idk if that is common in your location) or something tick borne that just makes them feel crappy and grumpy.

Really hope you can get to the bottom of it and have your happy boy back.

Thanks everyone.

when he was scoped I asked about hind gut ulcers and vet didn’t think he was showing the right symptoms. But now he has coliced perhaps he is now. I was concerned he wouldn’t eat it but first dose went down so fingers crossed.

He seemed brighter tonight and quite chatty (which is normal) UNTIL I tried to touch him. I checked him later and again he seemed brighter until I touched him, he had an itch, I went to itch it and he told me where to go. But was happier to have a cuddle. I would have been happier with 1 or 2 more poos but he was eating when I got there as he didn’t expect me.

Been a busy day today, missed this thread until now. After reading the first post, I hurriedly scrolled down looking for updates, happy to see that he is brighter this evening.
Fingers crossed he continues to improve, and feels even better tomorrow.

And did you say it's your birthday? If so, that's crap to have to spend it worrying about if your horse is dying. But I presume that there's no better present than that he's still here.

Happy birthday!

Mine took several months of omeprazole and sucralfate plus equishure for hind gut acidity before he was a properly happy horse again. And his ulcers weren’t all that bad looking. Don’t despair, you will get him back.
My sister's gelding also took quite a while to come right after being diagnosed with ulcers. His symptoms weren't behaviour related but he had chronic weight loss and it took him much longer to put condition on than anyone expected. He looks great now though, so there is hope, it may just need more time.
I hope Robin is feeling better today, K.
