My daughter is really enjoying her new share pony. This evening the owner of the share pony very kindly let me borrow her horse to get for a hack with DD. Within half an hour we were cantering which is more than our did with our previous horse in almost two years of hacking. The horse isn't a plod but I felt safe. I have told DH I having another horse. :). However as DD is now sorted I can take my time without feeling any pressure about when to buy. It was lovely to ride with DD tonight.

Hacking out with your daughter (or son!) is so special. So happy for you! My daughter’s share Shetland is retiring just as she’s outgrown him and I’m a bit sad that we can’t hack out together anymore. Hopefully in the future.

It was lovely last night, in part it made me realise that parting with our last horse was definitely the right thing to do. Just getting on horse and cantering without worrying was great. The yard have a cob available for part loan which they thought might suit me. However it is a lot smaller that the horses I usually ride (Under 15h although the people I spoke to said it takes the leg up well and my weight would be fine.) and while I love riding with DD I also enjoy spending time with a horse on my own which would be more difficult with a share on the same days as her. I may have an exploratory chat with the owner of that horse anyway.

Well try it.You have lost nothing if it doesn't work. The yard know you so their advice is worth listening to.

Perhaps you can arrange for one of your days to be on a different day or part of the day to your daughter . For instance if she has a lesson in the morning on her share and you go for a hack out on yours in the afternoon .

Sounds lovely. You can't beat the boost it gives to confidently venture forth and have an adventure. I have known so many people who change horses and immediately regain the fun. That is why I commonly say to change the horse if it isn't fun. Life is too short. Different horses suit different people.

I once owned a horse for 6 days before deciding I simply wasn't comfortable. The horse never put a foot wrong but I just had a nagging feeling that she was wrong. I didn't regret selling, a few weeks later, with a pro having taken her to some shows and having got some video so she found a super home.

It is harder than choosing a boyfriend!

Agree 100 per cent.I hung on to a horse for far too long once.It took me ages to get my confidence back .
