My horse absolutely adores these bits, but after 3 times already chewed a rip into her Korsteel Flexi bit. Her Apple Mouth bit lasted only a few months, going to try Happy Mouth next.
I was wondering if any of you had any advice on which plastic bits are the most durable or maybe have experiences with horses, who went as well on a certain metal bit? (has to be BD legal and double jointed with loose ring preferably) tried KK Dynamic (best metal one so far) and stainless steel...
Thanks

Sorry, no advice apart from to let you know you're not alone! My boy hates metal bits but chews his happy mouths down to the metal in a couple of months! (starting to cost me a fortune...) I haven't tried rubber bits yet, not sure if they would be any more durable?

I was thinking of rubber bits too but haven't found a double jointed yet... Have you found a particular brand to last longer than others? I had an apple mouth, which lasted a few months but the Flexi only lasted a few days. Just ordered a Happy mouth today. I was thinking of using one only for competing maybe? Have you tried the NS bits yet? They are supposed to be soft and warm, so I was wondering if that's the way to go? Let me know if you find a solution :)

Umm...the flexi I had lasted quite well but I only used it for about a month as it wasn't doing him any favours with schooling! The happy mouths have both lasted me 3-4months. I did find a jointed rubber bit but they are so thick that they wouldn't really be any good for me boy :(.

I do like the look of the NS bits but it's a lot of money to spend on finding out whether they like it or not...I suppose a call to the bit bank would be the way forward. A try before you buy!

Good idea about calling the bit bank (why didn't I think about that lol). I wouldn't worry too much about the thickness of rubber bits though, happy mouths are with 18-19mm rather on the thick side too

My youngster got through happy mouths too, i had her teeth done and was advised to try a warm metal with a lozenge i got a shires one for about £15 and its great !

I had the same issue with my mare and happy mouth bits. I have her in a loose ring sweet iron snaffle which she likes. Tried her in a copper eggbutt but she kept fixing in this bit. I have had no problems with the sweet iron and she seems really happy in this bit.
