happy mouth bits -are they flexible????

as title - are they flexible like the nathe ones - someone has suggested i try a nathe bit - but cant get one second hand and loathe paying £40 for something that may not work and if she chews it cant sell it on ebay. seen the happy mouth versiononline and wondered how similar they are ? - also seen sprenger duo? same thing or are they different.

by way horse usually goes in ns training bit - but does have tendancy to dislike tongue pressure think idea of nathe it moulds round tongue - i think? but not sure if going to be too gentle and i going to get tanked off with!!!! - it gotta be dressage legal before someone says waterford!!!!! i need her to work into bit not to back off it and run through it - like she does on occasion! - its really down to balance issues but sometimes it is just bloodymindedness that she decides to ignore me and turns herself into a tank! but she go on the lighest of aids IF she listening. working on balance slowly but need her to be comfortable in mouth so can progress really. (btw typical idxtb - large tongue, low palette, fleshy lips, - not easy is she!!!!!) also has (not tight) drop noseband on too ...... cheers tea and toast for all !!!!
 
The happymouth bits have 'knobbles' on the mouthpiece, so not really like nathe, which have a smooth mouth and thinner in the middle. I think the sprenger duo have a similar mouth to the nathe but don't know how flexible they are.

The happymouth bits aren't a flexible as the nathe.
 
I prefer the sprenger duo to the nathe and conforms to the mouth better as it has a triangle section cut out to allow room for the tongue and extra flexibility.

If it helps my boy happily chomps through a happy mouth but hasn't put a mark on this. Know its expensive though

(although not as bad as the D ring - just looked at the price of that and nearly fainted!!)
 
holy cow - how can it be £126 for a dee ring and £38 for a loose ring!!!!!!!!!!! ah didnt realise happy mouth not dressage legal - never even thought about bobbly bits! - my horse prefers a fixed ring but cant afford fixed ring duo - may have to try the loose ring!!

my youngster was in a french link and sounds similar to yours. if she dislikes tongue pressue and is not listening because of it have you thought about trying A single jointed snaffle? Not all horses go well in french link/lozenge bits and a single joint would take more pressure off her tongue.

we have just changed mine into a single joint happy mouth and the difference is amazing.

she been in jp curved single jointed and a normal single jointed too - think she doesnt like it as low palette must nutcracker up into palette - she is a nightmare! goes lovely in pelham but obviously not dr legal!!! oh and a dr cooks too - again not dr legal so searching for dr legal snaffle that will 'do'
 
My youngster was in a french link, but kept tucking her head into her chest enabling her to get her tongue over the bit.

I've since swapped to a nathe straight bar. It was about £15 in my local tack shop. She's stopped doing that trick now.

No idea about the legalities of wearing it in dressage, we haven't got there yet!
