and as per usual its not about my own horse
buy hey one day it will be.
Been busy with Py lately so i thought I'd share (warning it could get a bit boring get yourself comfortable in case you fall a sleep
) right then, last weeked we did our first dressage and qualified for that TB Championship thingy at Stoneleigh next year which was nice.
Obviously I can't over excited about it because he's not my horse and well he may not be around next year but it was still great news.
I had Py at the Dr Dave Seimens Clinic...guess where he comes from, are you ready?....a place called Loveland in America!
sorry but you couldnt make that up if you tried!
so we thought it was a good idea to get Py's back checked out (owner is kindly letting me ride him so I wanted to make sure his back was ok and all that) he said was tight in few places but did a few adjustments and he'd be fine to ride the sooner the better as it makes them realise that oh yes I can move now etc.
He started chatting as we were doing Py and asked me if I worked with horses full time, I said no, he said why not you should be doing!
(in his American accent that I found quite hard actually to understand), he said I've been watching you this afternoon in your lesson and the way you have handled him now and I'm impressed, your good with them maybe you should re-consider your career and asked me what I do for a living etc. (I was like....ok you can soooo take me to America and I'll be your assistant lol!) gosh what a dream job that would of been, so that was nice of him.
This Saturday we had another jumping lesson, stood speaking to the trainer while tacking up about wanting to improve my jumping position (as you will know its totally pants!) and he took one look at the saddle (TG GP..the older straight cut version, belongs to the horse) and said ''how the hell do you jump in that!! its cut like a dressage saddle but even so there beep b beep beeping cr*p, I can't stand those saddles'' which was which was quite funny (considering I also have owned 4 of them lol because thats all I can afford!)
.
Anyway got into the arena and started warming up, after taking a look at some of the jumps he was sneakily notching up lol
and then the big one in the middle, I gently reminded him ''just remember I'm not in a jumping saddle!'' he took one look at me and grinned ''oh yes you are, wait there a minute''.
Comes walking back from the tack room a few minutes later with a Butet CC jumping saddle under his arm, of course I didn't know this, to me it was a rather lovely and expensive looking piece of leather work
, far far too good for my sweaty bottom to be bouncing around on
, my eyes lit up like someone had opened a chest of gold in front of me, I then broke that magical moment of silence with my by broad Yorkshire accent and said ''OH MY GOD what's that?''
''never you mind, jump off, lets see if this fits'' ....which it did, like a bloody glove.
''off you go, no excuses now'' he said with an evil grin on his face.
Wow I was impressed, took some time to get used to it but I couldn't believe how different it altered my lower leg and over all position, I had to get used to rising up and down in a whole new way, which might I add, has since given me a bad back and a sore muscles in my bottom, which I presume from riding better and being able to sit up straight when pushing up from my feet rather than up and forward using my knees when I shouldn't be.
It was like riding bare back but with stirrups, if that makes sense but wow yes you can feel everything, it was like being in total harmony with your horses movement, as for jumping in it, again it was so so much better, felt like you were gliding over the jumps rather than been thrown over by your own saddle, everything felt so light and effortless.
So we cracked on with the lesson and various fences and then he said right then lets see you over that red and white, Ok and off I went (don't think he quite expected me to do it) so me and the Py went for it and I did my usual whoo hoo after wards (I can't help it, I love it I just get too excited), he then shook his head and looked puzzled
, I immediately panicked (like I do) as I thought I'd done something wrong and he said no I'm just amazed how well he's coming on and how you both jumped that, who'd of thought that was the same horse. He's now picking his feet up properly and there not all over the place, his finding his stride and its all coming together, I'm so pleased with him.
He then went on to explain how these types of saddles work, that the leather they are are made (as opposed to other good quality but traditional style leather saddles) the leather warms to the horses shape and the saddle expands and because they are build differently (rather than in two sections) they whole saddle flexes rather than just the lower part of a normal saddle, as the part where the tree is will always stay the same and only mould to one horse, he then went on to say he's only got 3 of these saddles for his all his 8 horses.
Sunday, another good day although we didn't get placed, he had a cheeky refusal in the 75cm at the chequered planks which he's never seen so I can forgive him for that but jumped the rest lovely then we had a pole down in the 85cm but he jumped even better then which I as more pleased with, considering the heavens opened and we had to jumping in the pouring rain.
So its been an expensive couple of weekends but certainly worth it and I've had lots of fun, however I'm now suffering badly with a back back, which I admit I is my own fault, I really should not of jumped yesterday as it started coming on really bad on Saturday night, and I thought it would be ok but then I've made it twice as bad yesterday, I can't stand up correctly now, don't think I should ride for at least a week, any tips on how to cure it?
Cookes & Cream for reading my pointless post and if anyone wants to send me one of those saddles, please feel free
