Took new 4 year old to the opening meet today and he was fantastic - we had brakes, he jumped everything and he was well mannered. I am absolutely delighted with him. Took him home at 2 because he'd done enough. Am going to hunt him half days all season and then give him long summer holiday.

I can't believe a 4 year old would behave so well.

My sister also hunted a four year old too on saturday the mare has autum hunted a few times with me but seen as the horse is for sale its cheaper to send my sister as she has subscribed cos she has a older hunter. Last week she took it with the Burton and ended up jumping loads and really enjoyed her self even though she had never sat on it before. Been advertised in HH this week and had hardly any phone calls, I guess the fact its 4 puts people off, if I threw away the passport and some one came and watched her out hunting you would think she is 10, Ive clipped her 3 times know and doesnt even need a twitch even for in the ears she is such a little sweetie.

Funnily enough I was told my horse was 5 - says 5 on passport but when vetted, teeth indicated he is 4 1/2. I wouldn't have gone to see him if he was 4 but 5 seemed ok. Wierd isn't it?

Thankfully I cubbed him with the Portman to try him out (before vetting obviously) and he was brilliant and that made up my mind for me. Comparing him to Happy, my 8 year old TB, he is like an old man behaviour wise.

Some youngsters have very old heads on young shoulders - hope you find someone great for your 4 year old.

Am very pleased with bog pony - legs fine after yesterday and just turned him out in his overcoat for the day in the pissing rain and he's happy as a pig in sh*t. He's warm and toasty and eating nice grass bum to the rain. Very self-sufficient!!
