I have been breaking my 3 year old (Astra)over the past few weeks (coloured in sig). I was expecting her to be a nightmare as she has a bit of a temper and is a complete loon in the field bucking for England. Learning to lunge was interesting, any opportunity to try and double barrel me or stand up in front and try to shake hands was taken but gradually she realised it was easier just to get on with it. Introducing roller then saddle was another excuse to misbehave and leap about too. When I started lying across her and putting weight in the stirrup there was no reaction, not bothered at all.
Then I asked a friend to hold her whilst I sat on her, still no reaction, led her round in stable/outside, not bothered. Off the lead 2nd time out and she was fine walking and trotting round the field, picking up her left and rights.
The reason this is a happy post is today she has been for her first hack round the block through the village. A friend of mine rode my other horse (her mother) and Astra walked and trotted happily in front for most of the time, there were a few scary bushes and drains but all went without incident.
It took mabout 20 mins and she was rather tired by the time she got back.
Its her birthday today too
