Well took the new boy out for our first hack today and he was such a good boy :D he was very good to tack up, although being a shire x it's quite a stretch to put his saddle on! He's officially 16.3hh but as my last horse was 15.2hh and my friends pony is 14.2hh it's quite a shock :p

We havn't got a mounting block big enough for him yet so had to get on using step ladders!! Didn't faze him at all. The old girl isn't ridden anymore but she came out in hand, on the way out I had him behind following her, he was good with all the cars, had some racing bikes passing us and didn't bat a eyelid. Went past a guy who was hedge trimming who didn't switch off the chainsaw till we were right by him.

On the way back I had him in front, he had one look at a log!! But it was only a teeny tiny spook and then walked on happily again. Had to stop him a couple of times to let the pony and my friend catch up and he was a little inpatient so need to work on his standing still.

Got back to yard and jumped off (it's a long way down) and friend got on and rode him round field and she was fine although is a bit nervous of him but she's going to hack him out tomorrow while I lead the pony.

So chuffed with him, his new nickname is policeman plod. I'm chuffed that he went so happily in front as we're going to have to hack him on his own as the pony can't go for miles.

He's a real sweetie and quite a character so think we're very very lucky to of found him:)

Cup of tea and yum yum's for anyone who got this far xxxx

I'm glad you're enjoying him.
I have had 2 ShirexClyde mares and a purebred Shire mare. They are incredibly sensible animals IME. The previous owner of my IDx now has a ShirexTB gelding and he has completely restored her confidence following a RTA with a previous horse, which my mare completely failed to do.
