Well i guess i'm just writing this because i want to share how happy i am this morning with my girl
I bought her at the beginning of this year, a complete impulse purchase as i felt sorry for her, but she is turning out to be such an amazing girl. I went to the dealers as i was looking for a 16hh+ 5yrs+ ex-racer to hunt, (please don't judge - i have plenty of experience with them, and would not choose another type of horse over an ex-racer!) but came home with a 2yr old, barely 14.2, lame, nervous/timid filly
Technically she was 3, (1st Jan etc) but she hadn't REALLY turned 3 yet, and looked more like a yearling, but she had raced 6 times already and funnily enough, wasn't good enough
I have literally spent the last 9 months molly coddling her
She had shin splints on her hind legs, so have dealt with those. Her coat was in such poor condition every single rug rubbed her, no matter what bibs/liners i used, we now have a glossy smooth coat and no rubs. She was very scrawny and skinny, but is filling out nicely now. And we have battled an intermittent abscess, which i think we have now got rid of - just waiting for her foot to grow down now as it burst out at the coronet band.
Ooh, also dealing with AWFUL feet full stop, but we are barefoot for now waiting for new horn to grow right the way through, before i decide what to do shoes/not.
Anyway - this morning - she came flying down the field to me when I called her, and I was so proud, because the horse that I saw was not the skinny unbalanced, un-level little thing i bought, but a nice strong, balanced 3yr old, confidently charging down a hill at me
I guess you don't always notice changes when the happen little by little.
I just hope she continues like this for me to start riding her next year
