hey all, went for a flat lesson sat morning and i told margot the trouble we have been having with twiggy occasionally jibbing and then going up. After watching us for a bit she decided she thought it was simply a 'block' from my leg aids. twig is quite forward going and springy on her own without you using your legs very much and so when going from halt to walk or walk to trot when you do use your legs she doesnt like it very much - anyway, cue plenty of transitions and learning to spiral in and out on a circle seemed to help and i had some fab medium trot
Now ive finally got a gp saddle for her we have been able to go about introducing jumping, all from trot still but tonight we have been doing crosses with placing poles, some planks, and we also did some small uprights in trot gradually bringing the fillers in and was jumping our rustic fillers fully underneath an upright pole
these were twigs first 'proper' fences apart from the piddly crosses we have played over and i have to say she loved it! I certainly didnt have much choice - we were going over those fences like it or not!
she did do her attempt at jibbing once or twice tonight but i employed the tactic of not making a fuss of it rather than sending her on, as i felt her slow down to try and stop i'd simply turn her in another direction before she had a chance to think about stopping and going up and this seemed to work great rather than having a confrontation again.
Anyway, sorery for a very self indulgent post - just feeling so much better after a few really horrible days earlier on in the week i had to tell someone about it!
