My two Cleveland Bay mares put into the French Stud Book as non-pedigree horses have now had their paperwork changed.

They are now registered as Cleveland Bays!!!!! I first wrote to DEFRA with regard to problems encountered in France in February 2006 and am delighted that at last our ancient and rare breed has achieved recognition.

I am waiting for instructions re the registration of our stallion a third mare and our filly foal - here she is 4 weeks old.

Thank you for letting us know, I am aware of the huge efforts that you have gone to, good luck with the CB's here in France!

Good news indeed.
I remember going to see a stallion Charles Harforth had years ago and being impressed by their calmness and obvious beauty, I think it's vital we don't lose them as a breed. Quite a few of the liveries I've had owned part breds, and they proved excellent all round type horses, capable but not stupid to ride.
Love that filly, isn't she cute..

Thank you for your replies.

JC please note that in all my correspondence with ,DEFRA, MEP's and lastly the person in the French Government who finally made things happen, I have included the list of British Breeds not recognised by HN.

I am in receipt of an email from the Director of HN, with responsibility for International Relations, requesting a meeting with DEFRA and other British Breed Societies so if I am hopeful that Dales, Irish Drafts, Shires and Clydesdales will also benefit.

Great news Rollin and do hope all goes well, you are making huge efforts, on behalf of a lot of people! My friend has an Irish draught arriving tomorrow, and she will be wanting to register him asap!
Keep up, the good work.
JC

Hi again JC. your friend should get in touch with her breed society and ask them to contact Horse Passport Team at DEFRA. Make sure that the Irish Draft IS included in discussions. PM me if you need the names and email addresses. If you send me an email address I will forward correspondence.

Thank you Rollin, I am seeing the paperwork tomorrow, when the horse should have arrived.Just for the moment, as he is a seven yr old gelding, all we would like to do is get him onto the Sports liste, asap.We will bear your kind offer in mind.
JC

Firstly that filly is stunning!

Secondly double congrats as I know you made it through the bureaucracy of not only the French but also the Society - you are doing better than me

I was told it took 11 years for the Friesan Horse to be recognised. We have been helped by two MEPs who have asked all the right questions!!
