I had never seen one of these used until this week, when I lunged two very different horses in one.
From what I could see, it incourages the horse to work low, but is not nasty because of the elastic inserts. Is this right?

I was wondering if it would work on Gyp who likes to work with a very high head carriage. I want to show him he can work with his head lower. I would only use it on the lunge.

What do people think of them?

They only help the head position, I think you would be better off getting the horse too use his back end correctly, and then the head position will come naturally.

Isn't this a bit sweeping without having seen the horse in question? I too have a horse with a very high head carriage and am considering various options to help teach her to balance herself when working on the lunge rather than just winging round on the end of the rope. How would you suggest that the OP tries to get her horse to work through its back end more on the lunge? it's not something I've been able to do with just a lunge line and no other equipment

I have found it very useful for my horse. He has a weak back, and if he ever has to take time off work I have to be very careful when bringing him back and take it very slowly. My physio recomended using one for lunging (or a pessoa) and when hacking him out, just to get his head down and streching over his back to build up the strength in it. However that naturally can just push them on the forehand so you really need to make sure that they march on to use their back end. It is not a training aid that will do it all for you. I do not use one schooling, because when he gets to that level of fitness he works properly when asked.

Hope that helps a little?

I like pessoas for encouraging the bum to work properly, and also lunging with two reins, thats what works for me. A harbridge to me focuses on the wrong end
