daughters pony club have their camp in 2 weeks and ground is rock hard.they normally ride twice daily for up to 4 hours in total .all on grass.at the moment we compete on a surface and do no fast work hacking as my horses legs are a priority.what normally happens .daughter would be gutted if i dont let her go.im hoping they would plan for this as no rain forecast but not sure what they could do ???

We're in the same position. Unless there is rain in the next two weeks - which isn't forecast for the South East - then we will alter the classes and groups to keep everyone on a surface. We will also remove the XC element of the final day if we have to. Thankfully our camp venue has 2 surfaced schools so we just need to do some re-jigging of groups.

Seriously - speak to your DC or camp organiser. You won't be the only one facing this. No-one wants to see horses hurt.

Last year ground was rock solid all week, and I was on a 20 year old pony who feels the ground, gets stiff if in a lot too! I had him on a bit of bute for the week, warmed up and cooled down extra well, and just did slightly less than other members of my group on younger horses, luckily I had a very understanding instructor! My camp isn't for 4 or 5 weeks, and I intend to go with my 15 yo TB, but we aren't staying for the competition as we have to go on holiday, and if the ground is still hard I'll still go, but keep an eye on him and not do more than necessary. :)

im not going to my camp this year sadly but they always do have an arena to use if it bad
im sure that the instructors will find some way to work around it all th pc instructors are usually great :)

We are hosting pony club camp at work in afew weeks and the ground is horrible, it has been for a long while. There is nothing we can do about it other than pray for rain.

We have a large school and I hope they will simply move to the school but the last few times they have been for rally they were hammering ponies round on hard ground :(
