My hrose has two tenths lameness in both front feet but we have been coping with light work and bute, however, today he was really really lame on both front feet. He has arthritis, but would the hard ground affect him? We dont do much when we hack out but he has a new field friend and they do tend to mess about a bit.

Hard ground can make horses lame due to concussion though most can cope with reasonable work on it so long as not too intense. It probably is making your horse worse, does he gallop around a lot in the field?

Yes, arthritis and hard ground do not mix!

There's not much you can do about what he does in the field, but if I were you I would hack him in walk only, on the roads where the surface is even, or school him lightly in an arena.

Until it rains, that is!
