My horse doesn't seem very happy on the hard ground at the moment. Seems only a couple of weeks ago and we were all up to our eyes in rain. Anyone else got fields like concrete at the moment? Can't believe I am wanting it to rain already!

It is strange isnt it - -gone fro a muddy morass to concrete in a few days!

I am using the area of hte field with longer grass for most of my faster work as hope the grass provides a cushion -- on the other parts she is not even happy to trot let alone canter!

I want rain too.

Our fields are awful, rock hard & hardly any grass. We were competing at Offchurch last weekend & the going was shockingly hard. If we don't get rain very soon events are going to have big problems sorting the ground out so that people are happy to run.

It's so often the case in this country, flooding then drought :-(

Our fields aren't too bad - plenty of grass and they're still managing to make skid marks when they muck about in the field, but everything else is as dry as a bone and dusty as well. There are very few places you'd want to attempt a trot, never mind a canter, out in the forest at the moment and I'm going to have to start soaking the GreyDonk's hay b/c he is now coughing. Sigh.

Yes mine is the same, didn't even want to trot properly yesterday in the field I school in, so we just went slowly, but it was hot as well which didn't help. I got up early to lunge this morning and he was a bit more up for it, but still a bit short. Went on the surface (which is dusty - hence why I was schooling in the field) and he was fine. I haven't had him long so this is the first time I've experienced hard ground with him.
