My horse, who I've only had since April, has a hard lump - about the size of a 5p piece, just below where the noseband fastens. It's on the bone, not in the fleshy part. I've only just noticed it so not sure if it's always been there or is recent. Any ideas?

hi my horse has a small hard lump there too, about the size of a pea its on the bone but within the skin - if that makes sense!! i think its a sacoid and i am going to leave well alone unless it gets any bigger - its not grown for two years now. keep thinking i will mention it to the vet but i always forget!! x

My mare has this too - like a bony knobbly outgrowth on the bone.

She developed it after being fed from a manger at chest level, I think she must have been banging her chin while she was eating and the bone thickened in response. (Might be nothing to do with that, but it's all I can think of that would have caused it!)

The vets have looked at it and didn't seem concerned, although they couldn't say what it was, and it has been there for about eight years now so I've left well alone.

my mare has the same about the size of a pea,it was there when i bought her and doesnt bother her,it feels like bone,i have no history with her as i bought her at auction not even a name,so no chance about finding what caused the lump.If it doesnt bother the horse and hasnt gone any bigger leave well alone, thats what were doing.
