My 20 year old arab boy (not ridden) has had hard nodule type lumps come up all over him - only thing I've done differently is start him on cond. cubes (vets advice) a week ago - hes dropped his topline and looks 'older' - is this a protein overload? Have stopped them tonight - will speak to vet when I get home tomorrow night - just puzzled! Has any one else had similar?

My gelding has the same, hes clipped out so i have been rugging him. Someone told me its because hes too hot under the rugs so I have taken one off in the hope they disapppear!

There's been a few posts on here recently about collagen necrosis, or something like that - excuse spelling... Could be that - have a trawl through some old posts. Am supposed to be going out tonight so can't stop to look! But not actually doing much about going so will check back here later to see if I can find the posts if you don't have any luck.

Thanks folks!
Taken him off the conditioning cubes - just basic rations - happy hoof and a tiny slop of speedy beet as before and he isn't as 'hot' already - was a bit reticent when the vet. suggested - NEVER again! The lumps are not as obvious but still all over him. They are like solid nodules that can be 'got hold' of, that 'seep'. I just wish I had time to ride - he is the most forgiving trusting las and I love him! Up until 2 years ago we were hacking regularly - wish I could win lottery! Would make life a tad easier! LOL

Recommend you google this which I actually came across on Horse and Hound archive:

The Merck Veterinary Manual -Eosinophilic Granuloma Complex: Introduction

My Arab came up with about 8 lumps in saddle area which really worried me. The vet has been out and says nothing to worry about as not painful and advises against cutting them out and I don't want to go the steroid route. Check his back all the time and it's not a problem as no soreness.
