WHY DOES MY MARE HAVE HARD UDDERS?
I DINT THINK THEY ARE CAUSING HER ANY PAIN BUT THE LAST COUPLE OF DAYS THEY HAVE GONE SOLID TO TOUCH.
ANY IDEAS AND REMEDIES?
LET ME KNOW :p

I assume she isn't in foal... I can only say that my Mare, whom I owned for 9 years, did this every summer, when the grass was lush, her udders would fill and in fact you could milk a clear liquid from her. They would be really firm. My friend had a WB mare who seems to do the same under certain conditions. If you are worried, obviously you should speak to your vet.

My mare gets this every spring/summer. It's not to do with a change of feed for her (in cyprus we don't have lovely grassy paddocks, they're on hay year round) and i have come to the conclusion it's hormonal. If the teats get really full and hot she is uncomfortable and stiff behind so i manage it by milking her. I find it helps if I cold hose the area 1st, then milk and massage the area and milk some more. Kept consistent they don't fill so much and she's happy. If I go away I always milk her beforehand as funnily enough nobody is keen on mlking a horse. In winter this is not a problem. I asked 3 vets if there was anything I could do and they all said no. However it may be something which could be treated herbally.

no she isnt in foal. and yes if it gets any worse then i will speak to the vet. so do you think i shud milk her?
and with the grass shud i mayb not turn her out on the field as much?
aghhhh the thought of milking a horse hmmm oh well ill give it a go!
