Farrier was out to new pony last night, no signs of any problems re his past laminitis but he did say he has very soft soles. So, just wondering if anyone uses any lotions and potions for this like keratex etc and which one you'd recommend??

thankyou!

My farriers always recommend neat thick bleach on clean soles, put on with a toothbrush! Then let the stuff dry on for 10 minutes.

Keratex or Kevin Bacon products are both great.

Personally I don't think I'd want to put bleach on my horses feet, thats one I've not heard of before!!??!!

Yep, always used it - it doesn't hurt them (don't spill it on your clothes though..) and seems to work well. Does a nice job of preventing thrush as well and hardens up my TBs crappy feet.

I have heard of bleach before as a treatment for thrush.
When one of my lads had thrush though I preferred to use borax diluted in water or sodium peroxide to flush out their hooves.
Haven't heard of it as a treatment for hardening the feet though.
