OK. did I do something wrong?

I last went to my in laws in Jan (he he he!). Harley went up for 4 nights in Dec, then 1 night in Jan with us and we never had a problem. In Dec we'd only had him 4 weeks, he was only 12 weeks old. I just popped him in his crate as normal and that was that....

We have gone up the last 2 weekends in a row, staying 1 night. Both nights he screamed non stop for about 2 hrs and then woke up at least once an hour, cried for about 10 mins and then we fell asleep again anyway, so he wasn't that noisy or he stopped....

He was in his crate, in his bed as normal.... Just different place.... On the Sunday mornings we popped out for an hour and a half. Again he went in his crate with a kong (that's what he gets when I go out during the day), but when we came back , he was curled up asleep!!!

So, any ideas? Shall I give him a kong at night? In August we are staying with my parents for a week as the PC camp I'm teaching at is much closer to them.... They aren't as tolerant as my inlaws, so won't be happy if he screams all night! He has been to their house more (maybe once a month for a few hours?) but isn't shut away from us.

Help!

I would try covering the crate if you did not do so, it could just be that the sight and scent of the sorrounding/room got him a bit anxious, I would cover it all and place him in there a good hour before you got to bed so that you can get him settled, and in this circumstance I would maybe leave him soemthing to take his mind of the change of environment but if he is anxious he may not touch it anyway.
Also maybe the radio on low, as the noises will also be different and unsettling.

I did put some towels over the crate.

I'll try putting him in before we go to bed and see if he settles better. Think I'll resort to a Kong too at my parents. My brother is staying the 1st night we're there too with his 2yr old baby.... will be a nightmare if H keeps everyone awake!!

Fingers crossed!! Thanks for your help.
