I'm quite intruigued by harness racing, and live quite near a course (york), and there's a race on saturday which I'd quite like to go to. I have no idea how it all works though, I've never been to 'normal' racing either! Do you have to pay to get in, do I have to dress really smartly? :o

Hi there.
Not been to York harness racing - too far for me, but we race regularly at the tracks in South Wales / Herefordshire.
Harness racing is much lower key than normal racing, so casual dress is fine - there's no dress code. You will almost definitely have to pay to get in - when we race it's only the driver that gets in free, we have to pay to have the grooms (me ) get in! It's usually about £8 each but that may be different at York.
For more info have a look at www.bhrc.org.uk or www.s4c.co.uk/rasus or http://www.trot-tv.com (you can see archive footage on here for free).

Have a great time :)
