Need a harness for tracking etc for Quarrie and I don't really like the ones I have-any recommendations? Currently have a front-load one like a Ruffwear and really don't like ones that interfere with their shoulders. Looking at Perfect-Fit but not sure they would be much better than the one I have.

Will it only be for tracking or for everyday use?

I always use a bottcher (bellyband) harness for tracking. Encourages the dog to keep the head down, helps to slow them down if necessary and stops the line getting tangled if they circle.

I've got mine from stalls but could find a link if you're interested.

I have a beautiful leather one - not cheap but worth the investment imo. I think mine came from Karenswood (I have had it for years).

well they do webbing ones which will suit me fine I think (saw a beautiful leather harness on a Dutch herder who was doing his assessment at the last session but then they were very professional ex field trial types. we are still at the stage of Quarrie thinking its best to do it at 30 mph).

I had not seen one of those before! I wonder if they are UK Tracking compliant (just cos I've not seen one). I dont often use a harness for everyday walking for him anymore but its handy to have the option. thanks!

Ah right. They are legal in my sport (all equipment is checked to make sure it meets regulation by the judge or tracking co-ordinator before you can start) and I wouldn't be without mine! Only a one use item though, be completely impractical for anything else.

I've no idea about tracking but some good quality, non-shoulder-impinging harnesses: Manmat (my favourite) in guard, distance or run varieties, Howling Dog Alaska second skin or tough skin, Euro DC short.

If you are wanting to do UK working trials then I suggest looking at the working trials website for equipment suggestions. I had mine from pet needs but karenswood ones are good too.

I love Manmat too - pricey but last forever! I've only used those designed for sled dogs but i *think* the guard harness may be suitable for tracking as it's been used by the police.
