Hi
I am new to the site so apologies for any errors in this thread.
I'm sure this is an old subject of which I would like to get some tips on.
My paddock is clay and gets trashed in the wet winter here in Devon, despite trying to get the timing right, we nearly always end up fencing off the winter paddock due to the deep and dangerous hoof holes, as the ground seems to dry in a matter of a couple of days with some sunshine.
We then try to back hoe by hand (it's a small area of about half an acre) and sometimes get a mini digger and drag the bucket or use the scraper to fill in and flatten the holes.
Obviously harrowing seems the best option so that we can then re-seed, but does anyone know of any other way. I have thought about buying an old 4x4 and dragging a harrow net behind or even driving the car over it (but I'm told modern wheel sensors might go haywire doing this)..The problem is the area is always too small to buy a small tractor or similar but to big to do by hand..
Any ideas would be very welcome.
Thank you
