Im sure ive read somewhere that you can use a pallet to harrow/level a sand school? but ive really no clue how to do it!!

We have a tiny makeshift "school" at our yard I think its just builders sand but it does the job, its deep in some places so we thought we'd try and improve it a bit

any suggestions??!!

Just about any reasonably heavy bar dragged squarely across the surface like a rake should do the job. You may need to experiment a bit as too light will do nothing and too heavy may move too much sand.

I have just had some ditches deepened and as I'm on sand there was quite a lot of spoil to distribute. I got a nice even surface by dragging an old railway crossing sleeper (about 10 foot long) behind the tractor with a rope tied to each end and a loop in the middle for the tow hitch. Made a lovely job!

A pallet in theory should do the job, have the slats at 90 deg to the towing vehicle/horse but you may find you need it to be a bit heavier otherwise it may skip across the surface. You could put a car tyre on top of it to give it a little more weight.

It would be very dangerous to use a palate as it could break-up leaving nails in the manage surface that could puncture a horses foot. Don't do it!

I tried a pallet on my rubber chips - it just accumulated a whole heap of rubber in front of it. I now use a little 4ft reversible (deep or shallow tines) harrow off ebay
