Harry the racist??

You've got to feel a little sorry for Harry - if it was A N Other soldier making the video and who said that, it wouldn't have been in the news. No one would have cared!

The only reason it's out there is because the idiot who leaked it could see £££ signs, as can the father of the boy referred to.

People who think Paki is now a racist term need to grow up.

Sorry, i am obviously terribly juvenile, because on the (fortunately rare) occasions that someone either calls me a Paki or refers to other Asian people as Pakis in my hearing, i curl up inside and feel like I want to cry. It actually physically hurts, and rightly or wrongly, makes me feel as if there is violence incipient.

i really don't care whether everyone else in the world thinks its an OK term to use, I absolutely hate it and assume that people who DO use the term, whatever their ethnicity, are morons.

I don't call Chinese people Chinkies, or black people wogs or nig-nogs either.

I'm not getting into this as I think it is totally silly, but Trundle, out of interest; what do you call people who come from Afghanistan and Kurdistan and Kazakhstan and Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan and Turkistan? And what about all of the other countries in the world who use the suffix -stan at the end of their country name?

Afghanistan - Afghans / Afghanis / Pathans (you can start a REAL war, with guns and rocket launchers and everything on this topic alone - they had been having one for several years before the Russans showed up!)

Kurdistan - Kurds

Kazakhstan- Kazakhs

Uzbekistan - Uzbeks

I know what you are getting at, Tia, but the fact is, that people from Pakistan are NOT "Pakis", they are Pakistanis. Pakistan isn't even a real word anyway, its an acronym, so while Kazakhstan is named after its Kazakh residents, Pakistan is not named after its "Paki" residents.

From my own personal point of view, I'm not even of Pakistani origin anyway ! You might as wll call me a Micky-Jocky-Paki and have done with it. or, you could just call me Trundle.

Well I was pretty sure it was not quite as simple as you suggest, so I just Googled it for clarification; http://www.worldatlas.com/aatlas/infopage/stan.htm

I imagine the same could be said for most of the well-travelled people of the western world but it all sounds like such a load of nonsense that I personally couldn't be bothered.

I did.

Sorry but i for one have had enough of this tiptoeing around ethnic minorities.
I'm all for treating people with respect and how i would want to be treated but they have come into OUR country alot of them as asylum seakers as in they are fleaing thier country becuase they fear for thier lives (either that or they want the handouts our government give them). Therefore it would stand to reason that our laws are better then the laws where they came from (or thier family came from), why do they insist on trying to change them then?
I dont go to an arab state and insist they change thier laws so i can go out dressed like i do in the uk and alone (as a female) or demand that they change thier culture just to cater to my sensibilities, so what on earth gives them the right to come here and demand that of us?

Call me racist if you will but i can only stomach so much Pc crap in one day.

No, I'm with Trundle on this one. It was disgraceful that the video was stolen and published and I hope they find the person who did this. Some friend eh!

But, on reflection, he nor anyone else, should be using this term at all. It is regarded as an insult by those on the receiving end and it shouldn't be used at all.
