Harry is 3. He started his education some months ago, consisting now of full tack on short walkies. We went out tonight and the first 5 mins he was an angel. He then decided that that was enough thankyou and he wanted to go home to the delights of lush grass and uninhibited eating. Firstly he bit me. Ouch, that got me unawares. I shook a good vibration up the lead rope so he struck out with his front hoof (how rude). I ignored him and walked on so he reared. I waited patiently until he came down and "WALK ON", so he sat down. literally. How embarrassing. Several cars stopped and I had to yank him up. Now I was cross. "WALK ON" - he knew I meant it and did but what a temper! It reminded me of my son when he ws 2 chucking himself on the supermarket floor! I am wary of asking too much too soon, but honestly, we were out for a stroll! He is my 4th baby that I have backed and schooled on and I can honestly say I have never seen such beligerence! Bless him, its quite stimulating really! He is so bright, I will have to be careful. Just wondered if you had experienced anything similar?
 

Not in that league but a Mini Shetland I had, when he came to me at a year or so old, would NOT have his feet touched. He would literally get down on the floor, on his back & wave his legs in the air. I've never seen anything like it & it was hilarious but I was very firm with him & after a month he'd stand for the farrier.

I can't think how he got the habit but imagine they must have let him get away with it! He was a sod to catch when he first came to me too.

Turned out to be a lush little pony though & was fab as a childs pony.

They do say the more difficult the horse is as a youngster the more of a superstar he will be. Hmmmmm!!!

But Harry Trotter sitting down...crikey...how naughty. Bet it gave those drivers something to talk about.

I've got an Exmoor colt who at the moment thinks it's funny to either gnaw my arm off or try and make babies with me when I'm leading him. He was a terrified mess when I got him as a 6 month old baby. It's taken at least another 6 months to get his trust, get a headcollar on him regularly and begin some serious sort of work in the school . Eeek, dreading taling him out on the lanes!!!
 
Oh my! How naughty was he!!!!

I went through that last year with my 3 year old, well he never sat down, but he has decided that orange vans and trucks are evil and are going to eat him! So I am not looking forward to our first hacks out at all! Might have to lead him to the bridle way! lol
