He has been getting increasingly worse over weekend, and could barely move over towards his breakfast this morning (he is in field, well rugged as not able to get him down to stables). Called vet immediately who came up to field. Gave him Finadyne injection in vein which should last 24hrs, but she has also left me with finadyne paste which she says i can administer 12hourly. He did seem to buck up mentally after jab, but is still not really moving around and unable to put back leg down at all.
He is having all his hay being taken too him in field, which he is eating. He is being attended to 2 hourly.
Basically it is not fair to keep him like this, we would not keep a dog or cat like it. Basically it is purely palliative care now and vet is coming again on Wednesday to reasses. He is unable to stay on finadyne any more than 5 days as it causes the liver and kidneys to stop functioning.
Vet has agreed that if she is unable to beome field sound then he must be PTS.
I will update this post regularly to let you all know his progress.
I hope someone looks after my horses that I have sold over the years in this calm and dignified way.
Myself and my YM are attending to his every need. X

Oh Cazza hun, you're doing everything you possibly can for him. If I ever came back as a horse, I'd be happy to be owned by you. It does sound as if he's almost had enough. Remember, horses don't think like us and say things like oh I hope I can last out til Christmas. They live in the now and if their "now" is miserable and can't ever be helped, then the last and greatest kindness you can do is to help them to die with dignity. Fingers crossed for Weds but if nothing can be done then stay strong for your boy and no crying til it's over or he'll pick up your anxieties. Thinking of you hun xxxxx
