Vet came yesterday and I finally managed to get Harry down to the stables for a proper examination. He has a lot of heat in his hind fetlock joint and what looks suspiciously like an abcess trying to break in 2 places on coronet band. Vet re poulticed.

We have to bear in mind that he has been on finadyne since Monday am and he is still hopping lame although he is able to move around now.

Vet also examined his back to which he was in pain in both the withers and loin area, although a true diagnosis is not possible because he is so blinking lame behind.

He does seem to be happier now though and actually managed a very lollopy canter over to me this afternoon. He has been repoulticed today and administered painkiller at breakfast time.

His coat has a lovely sheen under his heavyweight combo turnout! AND his eyes still look bright and his demeanor happy.

Anyhow I asked vets opinion on his prognosis, and she said to be 'guarded'. He probably won't continue to be happy unless on these strong painkillers and she won't let him have any past tomorrow. Basically tomorrows dose will last 24hrs and then he has to go back on bute (which isn't strong enough).

I have to ring vet Saturday morning with an update.

Ditto I. Sorry, I can't remember Harry's history

Why can't he stay on the current painkillers? What is the prognosis?

Hugs hun.

Basically doing this as a favour for a YO friend of mine. Her livery(very novice) bought Harry from a dealer 6 weeks ago. My YO friend was fed up with him on and off hobbling around paddock not being seen too as he should. The only other option was to send him back to dealer (via Knackers yard).

It has been my good deed of my lifetime to have Harry free of charge for 3 months to try and get him sound enough to be a companion so owner can manage him. The only stipulation is that Harry's owner will pay vets fees.

He is a beautiful animal, ex eventer from a top stud that has had a back injury in the past that for some reason has not been seen too. He has ended up in the hands of dealers and various owners, none of which could cope with his lameness issues.

I have investigated his past and found out that he sold for many thousands as a promising 5 yr old.......he was sold to a dealer in January for £300.

He is only 13, no age and has been passed from pillar to post. He is a total gent and has not put a foot wrong (pardon the pun).

This horse has been totally let down in his life and I would just hope that someone would look after and care for the horses I have sold in the past in as calm and caring way as I am doing.

Mrs M....finadyne is very strong and can only be used for 5 days before it starts affecting the liver and kidneys.
