Hiya, just to let ou all know that I need to find dear old Harry a home. I unfortunately can't keep him indefinately,so have told the owner that he has a home with me until 15th March. She is trying to get him in a sanctuary, but I hold out little hope as they are mainly full.

This is why I am passing the word around for him to go out to someone as a companion. He is not too be ridden, goes on and off lame, but is not ready to be PTS in vets opinion. I have never met such a kind, placid horse who has been passed from pillar to post and just deserves someone to love him and care for him as I have done. He is a calming influence on youngsters and has lived out this winter.

Poor Harry,I hope I can find him a nice home....!

Awww i have been reading your Harry updates whenever i see them, listen if you are absolutely desperate i would take him i am in the NE of scotland though, i was planning on getting something as a companion later in the year but if you were really desperate i would help you out. The 2 sanctuarys round here are full to bursting point i know

I think it would take me about 14 hours in my lorry!!xx

If he did go up to scotland could it be done in 2 trips so you both get a break? i.e. stop off overnight somewhere then carry on? Thats if you cant find anywhere else for him :-)

I understand what you're saying, but you know when its the right time abd tbh,its not quite time yet. He still has a spark in his eye, shiny coat and happy misdemeanor.

He will find a place to be,whether that be a sanctuary, companion or go back to his owner.

hes owner can not and will not care for him, and tbh im sorry if it seems hurtful, i dont meen it that way, but your just passing his issues on to somebody else, which is what the last lot of owners have done, if a horse has back issues, and is lame its in some sort of pain, i dont personally see that as fair.

I'm sorry, but this is not my decision. My OH has out his foot down and says that I am wearing myself out looking after horses that aren;t mine.

Come 15th March,Harry would have been in my care for 4 1/2 months, totally rent free. I have fed him, hayed him, administered drugs, bought him rugs that fit etc....all for nothing.

I cannot, and will not have a horse that I didn;t buy persona;;y landed on me for the rest of his life. I am a kind person, but not a mug!

Come mid March, the weather is better,he won't need the feed intake and I feel better about him going back to his owner at that time rather than the middle of winter. Also, aclose friend of mine owns the yard she is on,so can keep an 'eye'.

I am not passing him on,because he never belonged to me. I do care, deeply, but would you take on a horse just because??

I have done my best.

i never ment it as an insult to you, the friend K.. she can not and doesnt have the time to look after harry as we both know, i just think its time some one put their foot down and said its the end of the line for the horse, im told that the owners first words when it was suggested he went back to her were can i ride him.
she has no intrest in a field pet does she, and nor can she afford it.

i personally and this is jus tmy opinion.. dont think a horse with health issues should be give to charities.

I understand what you're saying. I have had a lengthy discussion with the WHW today, who were most helpful.

Could I just make a statement though?

What about old and injured racehorses? Do they not go into sancturies or go on to be a field companion?

The owner is well aware that Harry cannot be ridden again, thank goodness!!

I am hoping if a companion home,or a sanctuary is not found before March, then when owner has him back a home can be found for him during the summer months. Either that,or the owner must decide to have him PTS.

why not pass hairycoconuts details onto the owner since looking for a companion, sure they could arrange something if really wants him :-) I do agree its not your decision to pts but also understand where jhoward is coming from on Harry having an uncertain future with owner and may just end up that way but the nastier version by being passed on :-(
