Hartpury college loan scheme

I am starting equine science this year at Hartpury college and have decided to take my horse with me and keep her on the loan scheme. I thought this seemed like a pretty good idea at first, but I have had a few people tell me things like 'it ruins horses' etc... is this true?
My horse is a 17hh cleveland bay x thoroughbred mare, she has lovely paces and goes in a nice outline, and has a good scopey jump on her. She can be fairly strong and excitable sometimes but she is generally sweet to ride.
She will be coming to the college late as she suffered a bad injury a couple of weeks ago, but I have contacted the college and they seem to think it will still be ok to brng her... but after hearing things about the loan scheme ruining horses I'm starting to wonder if I would be better off looking for nearby livery instead?
 
I didnt go to hartpury but i did do equine studies at another college and they had the same loan scheme.
Some horses thrived on it, others were ruined.
How does she cope with lots of different riders with different riding styles and capabilities? Thats a huge decider.
As i said, some thrive off it and the care on the yard is second to none.. but i dont think i could take my horse to college on a loan scheme.

She's fine to be ridden by lots of different people, I think pretty much everyone at my yard has had a go on her including children, and she has always behaved exactly the same when I've got back on her as she did before and never seems to mind if another rider messes up! If I mess up she's less than impressed but if someone else does she's very tolerant... I think she just knows that I should know better haha.
 
My boy was at equestrian college for two years (not Hartpury) and he survived!!! It did him a world of good and he came out of it a much better and more responsive horse.

Suggest OP you take yours along; OK so you might have to make some adjustments and be prepared to be flexible as you and your horse won't be in a one-on-one situation anymore.

But I think if you just see how it goes, with an open mind, it'll be fine - and horse will settle well. You'll also have a lot of fun with him at a place like Hartpury with all sorts going on.
 
I went to Hartpury for 3 years and had 2 horses, and in my last year decided to put one of my horses on loan to the college to help free up a bit of my time and help with costs. She had only had me riding her for the 5 years previous and I have always been a bit funny about letting other people ride my horses, but she did fine and we didn't have any problems. They get very well looked after there, and I was still on the yard every morning and night to do my other horse so I could keep an eye on everything... but like I said, I had no concerns. Think it was probably harder for me to see other people riding her than it was for her to be ridden by different people!
