Hiya everyone,

I'm strongly considering going to hartpury next year to do a level 3 extended diploma in equine studies the equitation one (so riding) this is the HE, so like instead of sixth form? I'm a very hard worker and very passionate for horses and I know this is what I want to do with my life. Is there anyone who is at or has been to hartpury that can tell me if it's worth going too, good and bad recommendations would be fab! Any advice is helpful! Thanks for reading:)

When I worked with horses years ago, we were never keen on employing Hartpury students. There seemed to be a huge difference between those that earned apprenticeships 'in the field' compared to those that had been at college.

Hartpury is down the road from me. Facilities are superb and I know a lot of people who have been there but their experiences were very very polarised. It seems like a marmite place to go. It seems to me if you are very outgoing and confident then you'll enjoy it. But the more quiet friends who went there seemed to hate it.

It seemed to be that a lot of people would have their own horse, then go to study at Hartpury, they seemed to be missing a huge amount of, how do I put it, dealing with 'real' horses, this was in contrast to those that had left school at 15/16 to work with horses and had been happy to deal with any horse going as long as they were dealing with horses. Hartpury seems to be very 'by the book' and as you'll probably know, most horses don't read the book.
