my ponies have been suffering from scabbing, cracked, infected noses and feet, looks similar to mud fever, have been told that it is harvest mites or chiggers as sometimes known. I have tried frontline, sudacrem, flyfree etc to try and keep them off but no luck. Have had to remove them from field but i cant use them because they are so far away but if keep them there then they are so lame from the mites in their heels and the bridle cant go near there really cracked noses?? Does anyone out there suffer the same or have any solutions?? I am desperate!!

I always use Sudocreme on my old lad and it works a treat. I cake it on! (poor thing, he does not approve!)

Have your tried Camrosa?

My mare ripped her face to shreds last week (from the pesky flies) and I have used Camrosa on it. Even within 24hrs it was miles better. Plus the flies and all other nasties seem to stay well away from it!

I think the harvest mites tend to make the horse go bald rather than scabby in my experience.. and I think they spread down the neck too..

If it is Harvest mites, you need top get rid of any rugs etc, the horse has been wearing, and treat a few times with a medicated shampoo!

Good luck!

Everyone knows what I am going to say

Try applying pig oil and sulphur - and use sulphur mixed with sudocream and a little tea tree oil for the cracked areas - if you want my long and very detailed PM that I send people about P&S, PM me.

It is great stuff.
