Hi can anyone tell me whether I can treat the field with harvest mites or will I have to treat the horse? Is there an intectercide for the land? Is Front line a good preventative does anyone use anything else?

You treat the horse. I'm about to start using pig oil and sulphur on my hairies legs, which is meant to be quite good for preventing them, but also have been using hydrophane insect repellant on his nose and they;ve now gone (you can see them on his nose and they get into the creases and make them orange as the mites are orange). Those on my yard that don't have hairies out this on their legs too and swear by it.

I've heard a lot of people use front line but it's not equine tested and I've heard a few horror stories about it so I've decided to avoid that route.

You can ask the vet to give the horse a dectomax injection. They need two injections, 2 weeks apart to clear them.....
