Got up the yard yesterday and the field was empty where 3 of the horses should be. We went to the bottom of the field where we guessed someone had left a gate open.
Sadly not, the gate was off its hinges and lying in the field. We spotted Harvey, Will and Sam in the next field and as soon as Harvey turned towards us we knew it was not good.
The lower half of his front leg was covered in blood. We went over to him and he was very calm and we couldn't really see the extent of the damage as there was too much blood.
We walked him to the yard and hosed him down to find 4 cuts and one puncture. 2 were very deep and close to bone and tendon.
The vets call out time was a long time so he was taken to the vet yard a few miles down the road.
On inspection the vets couldn't actually do anything there and then due to the wounds and had to bandage him up and sedate him until the morning.
He will have to stay in 5 days and an assessment on his leg will be made today too see what the chances of him making a full recovery are.
On inspection of the gate it seems he has tried to jump it, which must mean something or someone spooked him as he is very calm in the fields. We think he got stuck after a struggle pulled the gate off.
Hoping the news is good news later.
