Hi I normally live by the rule „if not broken, don’t fix it” but I switched my pony to Agrobs weisenflakes two weeks ago as recommended by nutritionist and I see a spawn of the devil being born🤣. Pony normally calm and good as gold but since last week spooks at anything. He comes in during the day as first to the stable and is on his own for about two hours, in the past absolutely fine, couldn’t care less if there’s other horses around or not. Normally his routine is eat his breakfast (fast fibre before switch with pink powder and some tb chaff) munch on hay and within 30 minutes he’s sleeping where now he walks around the stable, neighing, looking though his window which he normally loves and spooks (normally sleeps under the window now won’t even come close to it) riding wise he does have some more energy which is good thing but struggling to concentrate and again looks for things to spook on. He is normally the most bombproof, calm thing you can get. He literally have eyes on stalks all the time. I think I’m switching back to ff even though it does contain soya which isn’t good for hind gut apparently hence I’ve been advised to switch to something more organic. Dont get me wrong, Agrobs are fantastic feed but I feel it doesn’t suit him. Pony has had ulcers few years ago. He’s also extremely good doer. Has anyone experienced this?
Many thanks

Have the flakes got carrot in, I've had two that went bonkers if fed carrots. Current pair eat weisoncobs, but I am very careful about any changes to diet. If the behaviour co-incides with the change, then suspect the feed.

It's just meadow grasses and herbs but could still be richer than a straw based chaff.

However at the yard yesterday, ym was saying some of the horses have been on edge, no change in routine. Could be the weather/season changing

Weisencobs and weisenflakes are the same thing just flakes are quicker to soak. May I ask do you bulk soak it? For example overnight to feed next day?

No we feed a very small amount soaked for about 10 minutes
Ok but can you pre soak them like speedy beets for example? Small batch overnight? Only asking as if I decide to keep him on which at the moment I will trial him for another week or two I really can’t ask anyone at the yard to hang around for 10 minutes until feed is soaked to serve it to him( we rotate in the winter to feed and turn out in the morning)

I really wouldn't continue to feed them now. I would give him a break for a couple of weeks and see if there is an improvement in his behaviour. If there is, you know he can't tolerate them. If there isn't, then is the time to start thinking about how you will feed them in winter.
