Someone has commented on a picture of my pony that he has small ears and eyes so must be a handful!

Has anyone else heard this? Made me chuckle. And for the record, hes a very good boy :p

I was told that if they had long ears they were very well bred but I dont know if thats true? Probably all donkeys would agree to that one?

I expect it was because mine had short ears and I didnt like the lady much! ha! But he was not well bred (if such a thing really exists).

Yes and mine has small ears too it was the first thing I noticed about him. When his ears are pointed forward one sits lower than the other which I think is cute.

He is also mostly a good boy but he is quite spooky and cheeky too and does take advantage if you do not keep him in check.

I have a book by Linda Telllington-Jones but tbh I don't really believe in it. Link is basically what is in the book.

We have a big horse at our yard with donkey sized ears and huge brown eyes - and he's a very naughty boy :D

Also, we had a pony with very small ears and tiny eyes - and you've guessed it he was also a very naughty boy. ;)

I've heard of horses with BIG ears & eyes being of nice character, but not the opposite. Although the term piggy eyes on small horses isn't very complimentary.

One of my ponies has ears almost of donkey proportions (maybe a slight exaggeration) and large eyes and he's managed to earn himself the nickname of ASBO pony although I think his large eyes make it easier to spot the troublemaking look in them hehe

Pfft - big ears, intelligent. Chestnut - bonkers. Add four white socks (and is it a mare?!) - loony.

They're all the same :D Some horses will prove it to be true, most won't - but why let the truth spoil a good story!

Forget ears and eyes... Have you heard the stories about whorls? Prepare for a hearty chuckle :)

My MIL bought me a book many years ago that listed many traits could be put down to how many whorls, long or short ears, the shape of their heads etc, it was very interesting. Some years later when we bred my mare who is a very head strong, confident type we checked out every detail to the book and she fitted everything for her personality. It was amazing and when I bought my cob I looked at him with that book in mind and ended up with a nervous wimp of a horse. ;)

Yes, ears, eyes, colour, socks, whorls etc are all offer some magical insight to the horses temperament, personality & intelligence. Load of rot imo.

I've heard that small eyes are an indication of a not very nice personality, but my big lad has slightly small eyes and has a sweet, gentle personality.
My Haffy looks like he has small ears, but the only problem I have had is that bridles can come off easier:rolleyes:

Small ears = ancestors come from a cold climate where it is an adaptation to protest the extremities against frostbite.
