has anybody tried fly bands?

Don-t think they would do it for mine. They sound as if they wouldn't protect enough of the horse, just around the legs and maybe lower belly.

I tried a fly band for round the neck about three years ago now. Bought three of them at the same time and put them on all three horses who were living our 24/7 together.

I never got the chance to find out if they worked or not, because the longest it took for my gang to wriggle their way out of them/rub them off, was 1 hour (Although I guess in a way it was a good thing that the bands did have a quick release - otherwise I could forsee some 'orrible injuries being caused). Tried replacing them for several days, but gave up in the end, as the gang had them off again in record time.

Haven't tried the leg ones - maybe they'll stay on a bit better?

No, but I did used to use Bounce fabric conditioner sheets on halters! Can't tell you if they worked or not.

I tried them, but wouldn't recomend / try again. They quickly fell apart & didn't really deter any flies!
Wouldn't bother!
The only stuff I've used & would recomend is 'deet' fly repellant. Get the neat deet stuff though - available in outdoor / adventure shops or off the internet.
