As a family we have been to both. Unfortunately not keen on either. Our son is now 25 but he hated Tunisia so much after going as a 5 year old, whenever he was naughty, we didn't threaten him with bed, we said he would have to go to Tunisia for his next holiday. He behaved perfectly as a child!!! I personally liked Sousse in Tunisia, liked all the Souks, but husband and child hated both. Sorry. I am sure it is better now.
Umm, both were nice, L is more Westernised obviously, I think it has black (volcanic) sand beaches iirc, lots of nice things to do etc.
Tunisia - if you're blonde, you'll get tons of attention, be careful if you take blonde kids because the locals think touching blonde hair is lucky, so can paw at them... not too nice for girls either tbh. the locals can be very pushy about getting you into shops etc. weather was fantastic, food was good. we only left the hotel complex once, (and i'm usually very adventurous) because of the excessive attention etc... but the hotel etc was really nice.
Didn't like Tunisia at all I'm afraid - didn't feel comfortable there. The men seem to think you are public property. I even had to warn a lady who had a kid of about 10 or 11 telling her she was a 'pretty lady' and saying other slightly vulgar stuff cos as she was listening to him one of the others was trying to get her purse out of her bag.
Sorry but it gets a big thumbs down from me (and it was a free holiday!).
Ive been to both. Enjoyed both holidays but very different.
The main difference between the two is whether you want to go out and about. L is great for touring round but T can be a bit intimidating off the hotel site. Depends on the sort of holiday you want.
Tunisia is very cheap and a great place to do watersports and Lanzarote can be very windy at times but has some nice places to visit.
Not sure that has helped but as usual its horses 4 courses
I loved Tunisia - went to Sousse as a base but travelled around and went down to the Sahara which was quite magical and loved the historical sites (I got really quite silly when visiting the Bardo in Tunis. It used to be the Bey's Palace and was where the Godolphin Arabian was taken as a gift to the Bey). I was on my own and I admit that shoppng can be a little daunting until I got the hang of bartering. I'd go again though any time.
I hated Tunisia, spent each morning getting up and calling the rep asking for a flight home, and this was in a 5* luxury all inclusive hotel, if i couldnt cope in there i had no chance per se!
I love Lanzarote - quiet, lots to do and see, amazing volcanic landscape, local artist Cesar Manrique has left lots of interesting things, (his house, cactus garden etc). Playa Blanca is a nice resort. Good for family holiday with small children or for a couple wanting to totally chill.
