Has anyone else changed their dogs routine to cope with this heat ?

I find I am having to take my girls out now at 6.00am and 8pm as they find this heat too much.

Went to the woods at half six on Monday and within 10 mins they were panting so took a gorgeous change of route through a densely shaded track and it was fab.

Our morning walk is always between 6-630am so thats fine. We have delayed the evening walk until 9ish though rather than 7ish as its just too warm. Im at home afternoons anyway but I have noticed they are happier indoors laying on the tiles with the ceiling fans whirring than being on the decking! We walk alongside the river most days so they are going in morning and evening for a splash and a swim which seems to help a bit.

yes mine just dont go out for a couple of days tbh - they really cannot cope.

They play in the garden all day so they choose when they have had enough (theres two of them so they wind each other up)

If i was in work however i would be walking them at 6am and 9pm...! luckily im off for another week :)

Yes. Bear The Border gets only the one walk, in the evenings when it's cooled right down.

But please don't be alarmed! ;) He has the run of our huuuuuge garden, the old stable block which is literally the coolest place around, and the house for the whole day. I'm on summer hols which coincide with the school holidays, and OH is more or less retired, so he's home most days in any case. So Bear is never shut in......... unlike a new neighbour's dog which has howled since about 4 o'clock this afternoon ........:mad:

Not even the heat will deter the slightly mad setter from his walks, but OH has been taking him out as early as poss in the morning and he's always gone out late in the evening anyway so that's stayed the same for him.

I was exercising him on the bike (trying to find ways to give him enough exercise when fields were too wet),but have stopped that as prob a bit unfair on him in this heat, although the mad thing would still be up for it no doubt lol

It hasn't really hit the temperatures you guys have been getting yet but I walk morning and evening anyway and all our walks are alongside water of some form or another. Might lay off biking but the last time I biked was Monday and got soaked through two waterproof layers and my ski trousers, see first sentence!!!!

No - ours go to the horses with us and run around like idiots but when they've had enough they stop, rest, have a drink and may sit in the (open) boot of the car and wait until we go home. We leave the back door open at home in the heat anyway so they can think for themselves & come & go as they please.

yes its too hot during the day so we walk first thing in the morning and last thing at night when its cooler :D Not sure its specifically for the dogs because I love that time of day and there are a lot less walkers about. Shocking how in winter only the die hard dog walkers are out there and yet in summer there are so many and most have no manners or social skills.
