My plate has now been in situe for six months and appears to have done its job.

Occasionally, I get a little sore above one of the screw heads and when I lie on that shoulder it is uncomfortable.

I am due to have it removed in two weeks time, which I have been told will be day surgery. I will have my scar reopened, plate removed and then stapled again for two weeks then staples removed. I should imagine I will then get on with life once more, back to work and so on.

Is there anyone on here that has had the same operation and can tell me exactly what to expect. Also, have you benefitted from having the plate removed or in hindsight do you wish it had stayed in place?

Psychologically, I think I will be happier with it removed because if I were to fall off again onto that shoulder I should imagine it will really hurt, the fact the plate won't move and also someone mentioned it could be dangerous to leave it it, something about an artery running near it - though doctor at hospital didn't seem unduly worried.

Hope someone can help.

Hi there, my eldest son had his collar bone pinned and plated this year due to a motocross accident. He has been told absolutely no riding or conatact sport while plate in due to artery underneath and metal doesn't give!! He is also due to have plate removed in march by day case. A further 3 month wait for holes to mend where screws go and so by about june/july next year he'll be back to normal!!
I did ask specifically what he could and couldn't do and basically was told "not a lot!" Consultant told me it is just too dangerous to risk a fall and it could take an extra 2 years recovery if he did. So in total he will be out of everything a normal teenager can do for about 12 months in total !
