I have recently had a diamond created from the tail hair of my pony who I lost in September, just wondered if anyone had had one made, or if I'm the only insane one!!
OOOH details please - like cost, size, does it look real etc! Have been thinking of doing this too but not sure how to go about it. Can it be done from ashes rather than hair?
Thanks in anticipation......
Mine is 0.563 carats (the company that made it don't tend to make single ones that are less than 0.5 carats as the cost to them is too much). it looks so real!!! (bloke who made it would kill me for saying that, it is real! just created in a lab not the wild) I believe that a 0.5 carat yellow diamond is approx 3000 (I persuaded my dad that it was the only thing that would make me happy having lost my pony so suddenly, so I don't know exact cost), and a blue is considerably more
I absolutely adore it as does everyone who's seen it. It's a really deep yellow colour, almost orange and is seriously sparkly, very fitting for the pony who it is 'made from'...
They will make them from ashes as well as hair, i just chose hair from a personal preference.
I googled some companys the other day as i was interested in this they are around £500 depending on what you have them set in, ie. a ring, look up tomorrows traditions & heart diamond. Im going to have one done as soon as i have the money.
the company that made mine was Phoenix Diamonds and I can't recommend them highly enough...
I spoke with Heart Diamond, but didn't like the fact that they weren't based in this country and the service all seemed a little impersonal and pushy, but each to their own I guess
I shall have a look at phoenix diamonds, i was'nt aware heart diamonds was abroad, so id rather deal with someome in the uk, it is a great idea, i wish id thought about it befire ordering my wedding ring!
I don't think you're weird - it is a lovely thing to do
I had just read about this in the papers a few years back when my friend's pony died suddenly and looked into it then - but sure it was MUCH more expensive - more or less the same price as natural diamonds of the same size.

You are a very lucky girl if your Daddy spent 5 grand on a diamond for you because you were upset, hope you said thank you and realise how lucky you are
Before I committed to having mine made, I went to meet with the guy to see a few examples, and he showed me one that was made from his beard trimmings, one that was made from the ashes of a cat and one that was made from the ashes of a person. I know it's really irrational as they are now all beautiful sparkly diamonds, but i was really weirded out by the one made of human remains. They have also made one (the only one in the world I believe) from a human umbilical cord!

That's a lovely idea - thank you for letting us know about it. I hope it's a while until I need them but I'd love to have something like that from my old horse who I've had for 20 years now.
How much hair did you need? I would imagine quite a lot? Or if you only have a little bit (say a few hairs) do they combine it with something else to make the diamond?
I'm not sure if they can combine hair and ash.
I needed to send them approx 30 grams of hair (which is more than it sounds - approx half a coffee mug full if i remember correctly). If you use ashes, i think it's 100 grams that they need.
Sadly I can't afford to have my girls ashes made into a diamond but I can live with the fact she was a diamond herself through and through and now lives in my spare room!
