how whippets seem to be getting really popular at the moment (and rightly so

)? When I got my first whippet about 8 years ago, I very rarely saw other whippets around - in fact the only one I ever even saw as a child belonged to my old maths teacher - but now everyone seems to have cottoned on to them and you see loads about. Maybe I just lived a sheltered life but they do seem to be having a bit of a renaissance at the moment.

Long live the great whippet revival I say

My friend has got two Whippets and its funny you should mention it because I would say there is defo an increase in numbers about. X

I like the way attitudes towards them are changing

When I got my first one I got so many negative comments about them - oh silly shivery dogs etc etc - now people seem to be realising what fab little dogs they are

I got my first one at 13....I bought him for £10 from someone who wanted shot of him when they had bought him from a mart thinking he was a bitch

my second, I was 15...a very expensive racing whippet that my mam brought home from work that had been taken to her vets with a broken pelvis after a race...they wanted her PTS...again their loss

I totally agree... I used to get all sorts of people shouting things at my whippet like "oh why have you got that rat on a lead"

and once a man stopped me in the street and said I should be reported to the RSPCA because my dog was 'starving'.

Doesn't happen much anymore... people want to tell you all about the other whippets they know these days!
grin.gif

I haven't seen one for ages - our old friends used to have one as a house dog and they used to bring it to shows - our GSD was terrified of it, she wouldn't pass it unless they picked it up!

ive got two, peggy is nearly 7 and was paralysed last year but now leading a quality of life and i have bow whos 3 which i course/race her...whippets are alot tougher than people think they are...yes they do feel the cold, but they only have one layer of coat and they are built for speed...one is never enough..once you get one you seem to get another soon after...i know people whos got more than 7 of them

I have one she is 3 and i am looking for another as we lost our older lad in march this year and she needs a friend

So any whippet puppys in the west mids area please let me know.
